Lisa Marie Djeng is an experienced portfolio manager and ESG Specialist in the Asia Pacific region with over 20 years of experience. Currently she is the Asia Pacific ESG Lead of a global asset management company and is responsible for leading ESG initiatives in the region. She was one of the first two Certified ESG Analyst Certification (CESGA) holder in Hong Kong who passed her examination in 2019. Recently in 2023 she became the first EFFAS Digital Assets and MiCA (DiAM) certification holder in Asia Pacific after passing the inaugural certification examination in June 2023. We invited Lisa Marie to share about her experience with EFFAS.
“In 2018 I was working as a Greater China public equities portfolio manager. At that time, I had opportunity to manage European investment mandates with ESG focus. At that time ESG education was not common in Asia. I conducted extensive research on available certification programmes. It was a visit of my Europe based university mates who shared with me the importance of ESG and I foresaw that it would become an important trend. I decided to write to EFFAS to enquire about the possibility to sit for the examination in Hong Kong. At that time Ms. Valeria Fauner was very helpful and provided valuable guidance to me. Soon after that, I enrolled to the CESGA programme and embarked on the learning journey.
I was surprised on how well the teaching material was designed by experienced academic professionals and practitioners. The syllabus was structured in a comprehensive manner covering all the key components of ESG from taxonomies, regulations, screening mechanism, application of theory to financial modelling and portfolio management. I could immediately apply the knowledge I obtained to my portfolio management work. I truly enjoyed the learning process. As an early CESGA certification holder in Hong Kong and Asia, it has broadened my horizon and equipped me for my career in ESG investment.
I have always been a proud CESGA certification holder and always grateful to have made the decision to embark on the learning journey. When I learnt about the plan of EFFAS to launch the Digital Assets and MiCA (DIAM) certification in Christmas of 2022, it drew my interest. My experience of CESGA was very good and I always want to learn more about the latest development in the financial market. Therefore, I decided to embark on the learning journey for the second time with DiAM certification programme. The DiAM programme covered a wide range of topics including digital assets, essential elements of the technology and the regulation aspects. It keeps candidates up to date with latest developments and professional practices.
It came as a surprise to learn that I was the first DiAM credential holder in the Asia Pacific Region. I am happy to be the EFFAS Ambassador and I look forward to learning of EFFAS forthcoming initiatives, Perhaps it’s time for me to embark on another exciting learning journey with EFFAS.”
