ECMI was established as a non-profit initiative through a collaborative effort by its founding organisations, including EFFAS, FESE, and ICMA. ECMI conducts research aimed at informing debate and policymaking on a broad range of issues relevant to capital markets. It facilitates interaction among market participants, policymakers, and academics. EFFAS is represented in the ECMI Board of Directors.

Thorsten Müller, EFFAS Deputy Chair, is the EFFAS representative on the board of the ECMI. He helps the EMCI in its quest to conduct in-depth research aimed at informing the debate and policy-making process on a broad range of issues related to capital markets. Through its various activities, the ECMI facilitates interaction among market participants, policymakers and academics.

Thorsten Müller (DVFA, Germany)

Thorsten Müller is Managing Partner at Lighthouse Corporate Finance GmbH in Frankfurt. Prior to this, he had different jobs within the investment banking division of Commerzbank AG as well as WestLB AG. He joined DVFA in 2009, since 2018 he has been a Member of the Board and became CEO in 2 022. In that role he gives special emphasis  to the development of the Capital Markets Union and to listed SMEs. Thorsten represents DVFA at IMAC (Issuer Markets Advisory Committee)  at Deutsche Börse AG and  is a member of the advisory board of the German financial regulator, BaFin.
