EFFAS Appoints Thorsten Müller as Deputy Chair, Elevates Capital Markets to Strategic Priority
04 May 2026 | Frankfurt am Main
The European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies (EFFAS) has appointed Thorsten Müller as Deputy Chair, reinforcing capital markets as a central pillar of the federation’s strategic agenda. Müller, who also serves as Co-Chair of the EFFAS Capital Markets Commission (CMC), has been a driving force behind EFFAS’ capital markets thought leadership in recent years.
A Strategic Signal
The appointment sends a clear message about EFFAS’ priorities. As Hans Buysse, Chair of EFFAS, noted:
"Capital markets are not only a financing channel — they are a cornerstone of Europe's economic sovereignty and long-term growth. With Thorsten Müller stepping into the role of Deputy Chair, we are strengthening our ability to drive meaningful contributions to this agenda."
Flagship Initiatives Gaining Traction
Under Müller’s leadership of the Capital Markets Commission, two flagship initiatives have emerged as reference points for the industry. The EFFAS Capital Markets Yearbook, first published in 2024, offers a practitioner-driven perspective on European capital markets; a second edition is scheduled for release later this year.
The EFFAS Capital Markets Forum, now in its third consecutive year, has established itself as a high-level platform for dialogue among investors, corporates, regulators, and policymakers across key European financial centres.
The most recent Forum, held in Milan, featured a keynote by former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta, who underscored the urgency of deeper European capital market integration in a challenging global environment.
Expanding Technical Capacity
EFFAS has also appointed Bodo Kesselmeyer as Associate Member of the Capital Markets Commission, tasked with establishing and leading a new Corporate Reporting / Structured Data & Technology Working Group within the CMC. The initiative is designed to bridge high-level policy work with practical, market-relevant implementation.
Looking Ahead
With a reinforced leadership structure and a growing portfolio of initiatives, EFFAS is positioning itself as an active and authoritative voice in shaping the future of European capital markets.
